FAMILY

I bought a sewing machine last April as a creative outlet. I'm using my new sewing skills to explore the theme of family.
This is the story of my children Linus and Clemmie. Two preschoolers living with their parents in a two bedroom flat in London. My husband has a condition, which means we have to be extra careful and the children can’t attend nursery. They basically only have each other to socialise with. I wanted to portray this through a piece of clothing. Highlighting the impact this current situation is having on their relationship in both a positive and sometimes negative way.

NATURE

I bought a sewing machine last April as a creative outlet. I'm using my new sewing skills to tell the story of Linus' relationship with nature in this pandemic. With no outdoor space in his home, visits to his local parks are a daily event. His favourite activity when out in nature has been feeding the wildlife. I made him a costume to fit his new found purpose, a “Super Hero of the London Wildlife" outfit. Inspired by the peacocks in Holland Park, the outfit is green to help him blend in, equipped with a mask to keep his identity a secret & with many pockets to hold enough bird food and nuts.

FOOD

I bought a sewing machine last April as a creative outlet. I'm using my new sewing skills to tell our lockdown food story. We rarely had pancakes before the pandemic but we needed an activity to fill up our mornings in the first lockdown. The process of cooking together and then sitting down to enjoy our food became a little ritual which filled our time & our tummies. Even though we don’t have pancakes every day now, our morning routine has still slowed down. We sit at the table and have breakfast together, because we don’t really have anywhere to be and that bit of it is actually quite nice.

DREAMS

I bought a sewing machine last April as a creative outlet. So I wanted to use this new skill to make a piece of clothing that would help out my son with a dream he’s had all throughout this pandemic. He constantly tells me he would like to visit his grandparents in Mexico and go to the beach with them. So I thought I’d make him a piece of clothing that would remind him of Mexico and make him feel closer to this dream of his while he wore it. Unfortunately as you can see in the pictures it wasn't very successful, turns out he wasn’t massively keen on the idea of wearing a beach instead of being on one.

WORK

I bought a sewing machine last April as a creative outlet. I'm using my sewing skills to address a never ending workload battle between my 2 year old & myself. Her full-time job consists on displacing anything & everything around the flat. The more time she spends in here(which is a lot because of the whole lockdown) the bigger the mess she makes. With this in mind, I made a cape ease my workload. She goes around making her mess & we can go behind her dumping it all back in, which she then has to drag around with her. The harder she works on her mess, the more she gets slowed down by it.

TRAVEL

I made a piece of clothing which would enable my three year old son in London and his grandmother in Mexico to hug each other for the first time in a year and a half. The jumper is actually two jumpers sewn together. I took a photo of my son wearing it and then the jumper was sent all the way to Mexico for his grandmother to do the same. I then merged the two photos of the special jumper to get a picture of that long-awaited hug.
